Tasmannia insipida- Small open shrub to 3m, leaves are sparse in areas of low light, found in subtropical rainforest, moist areas of dry rainforest and scrubby watercourses from eastern Victorian to SE Qld. Also in highland NE Qld.

Fruit are soft mauve fruits containing many tiny black seeds. Ripe Sept Nov. Edible, the fruits are insipid but the seeds taste like freshly ground black pepper.

Originates in the cool temperate forests of Antarctica when it was connected to Australia and S. America. In Tasmania the seeds are sold as native pepper.
